“Providing hope and support to those facing a sudden or prolonged injury, illness or diagnosis”

What do we do?

The Travis Burkhart Foundation is there to support where insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid leave off and help those that are going through struggles due to a prolonged injury, illness, or diagnosis. It is our passion to bring financial and emotional stability back into the lives of these families allowing them to focus their attention on supporting their loved one(s) in need rather than on the stresses of sudden and extensive financial responsibilities.

Our story is better told through the words of a mother that has had a child diagnosed with brain cancer…

“We appreciate the kindness and generosity from the Travis Burkhart Foundation. Our daughter’s life was turned upside down with the discovery of a brain tumor. The extra-large iPad that the foundation gave us assists her every day and her everyday needs. The foundation's gift makes it so our girl has a little bit of normalcy in her life.

How do we do it?

We provide support in the form of monetary aid, food, gas, DME, and information. We know all too well that bills and expenses can quickly stack up and the monetary aid or even simple things like food/gas while traveling to medical appointments and information can help alleviate the strain. We have seen a lot, been through a lot, learned a lot, and want to share that information we have gathered along the way with those who need it.

Why do we do it?

The Travis Burkhart Foundation was started to help those in need the same way we were helped when we were in need.

Let me tell you about my son Travis when he was 23 years old. He had an accident that changed his life and ours forever. In February 2008 he was returning to USI from a home visit when he lost control of his car in freezing rain. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a fracture of the C2, he died on the scene and was resuscitated.  The following months and years have revolved around getting the best medical treatment for him.

We have felt and seen incredible support in the days and years since Travis’s accident. The prayers, support, and love helped us through those times.  The Travis Burkhart Foundation is our way of giving back and paying that kindness forward. We want as many families as possible to feel the support that we did.

Catastrophic injury, illness, or diagnosis can strike at any time. Unfortunately, unexpected medical crises are a fact of life. The impact that such events have on a family can be quite devastating at many levels. While most of us do our best to be prepared for such situations, there are always unplanned expenses and responsibilities that arise. Few are completely ready for such a traumatic and painful event.

Even families with comprehensive medical insurance coverage are faced with many out-of-pocket expenses when dealing with unexpected medical events. The cost of eating out at restaurants, the additional gasoline for repeated trips to the hospital, phone calls to family members and physicians, airfare, hotel stays, and medical equipment, etc., can all take a serious financial toll while one is receiving needed medical care.

How can you help?

There are two ways that you can help. First, tell our story to others. We know word of mouth is one of the best ways to let others know who we are. Go to www.travisburkhartfoundation.com and complete an assistance application for someone you know and love that might benefit from financial support during a prolonged injury, illness, or diagnosis. The board has developed a protocol that allows individuals to request aid from the foundation for friends and family. Ultimately, the decisions for aid are placed in the hands of the board of directors for the foundation. Secondly, allow us to continue helping others with your donation. 100% of your donation will go directly to individuals that meet our criteria. Approved funds are sent within 7 days of receiving the application. Our administration fees are less than 1% and are covered by fundraising activities.
